Easily pigeon-holed over the years, the expectation is that you should play the classics. Fair enough, weddings are joyous occasions. But there are so many damn ways to play that shit. One can toy with nostalgia, delivering familiar music in an unfamiliar way. Lace dem samples over that chugging, bouncy house sound that we all love. Make it playful, some cushion for the pushin baby. Anything can be a craft if ya dig deep enough.
And yet, itโs a different kind of dig. Slugging through the digital quagmire until you find that rework on Bandcamp with only two likes. Or the wonky edit with 327 plays on YouTube uploaded by some bedroom producer in an obscure suburb outside of Belgrade. Ainโt nobody got that track.
Anyway, itโs not always understood, but after fifteen years of defining a hyper-nuanced genre and indulging in the whole โyou had to be thereโ mantra, sometimes the stars align. Here is a recording of that morning.
Strap in for the nonsense.
